How to change the default screen resolution on the Samsung Galaxy S7 running Nougat

The Samsung Galaxy S7 and S7 edge are two of the newest phones to run the latest version of Android and with the upgrade, there are several new features being added to the handsets to make the experience even better. The first of which is the ability to lower the screen resolution to save battery life…

The benefit of lowering your screen resolution as far as battery life is concerned is a debated subject. On one hand, you still have to illuminate the entire display. On the other hand, your phone will no longer have to run applications at a higher resolution.

Be aware that after upgrading your S7 or S7 edge to Android Nougat that there is a chance that your device’s screen resolution might have automatically been set to FHD. The instructions below will walk you through either setting it WQHD, FHD, or even good ol’ HD.

How to change the screen resolution:

  • Go to your phone’s Settings menu
  • Scroll down to Display
  • Tap on Change screen resolution
  • You can now select either HD (1280×720), FHD (1920×1080), or WQHD (2560×1440)
  • Tap on Apply in the top right corner

    • Once your screen resolution choice is saved, you don’t need to worry about it reverting back to a previous setting after restarting your device in the future.
