McDonald's and its yellow arches are well-known but do you know there is a McDonald's branch where the ubiquitous arches are actually bright blue?

The bright yellow letter M for McDonald’s has to be one of the most recognizable logos in the entire world. However, the McDonald's branch in Sedona in Arizona in the US has turquoise-coloured arches and there’s a pretty interesting reason for this.

Why are the McDonald's arches in Sedona blue?

When the McDonald's outlet in Sedona was opened in 1993, city officials were concerned that a brightly-coloured M on the side of the building with a red rock would overshadow the beautiful scenery that the city has to offer.

The city of Sedona is famous for its stunning natural beauty — namely, its mountainous landscape of red rock. There are certain rules in place for buildings in Sedona to make sure that no structure intrudes too much on the surrounding natural scenery.

The officials opted for a more aesthetically pleasing shade of blue - turquoise.

Interestingly, the objective of not letting the traditional yellow arches overshadow the city's beauty didn't work out well as the Sedona McDonald's branch has become a tourist attraction. The blue arches make the Sedona McDonald's stand out. Travellers flock to the fast-food restaurant to click pictures with the turquoise 'M' sign.
