Turtwig is one of the three Sinnoh starters that you can catch in Pokémon Legends: Arceus.

While none of the Sinnoh starters were a part of the main three starters in Pokémon Legends: Arceus, they weren’t forgotten by Game Freak. All three of them can be caught in the wild to a varying degree of difficulty. One of the easier ones of the starting Pokémon to catch is Turtwig, who should be the players’ second encounter with the Sinnoh starting cast.

Turtwig is the Grass-type from Sinnoh that can be found in the player’s second area of Pokémon Legends: Arceus. Chimchar is found in the first while Piplup is the last starter you will likely encounter in the third region of Hisui. While Turtwig isn’t all that difficult to find, you will still need to know where to find it so you can catch it and add its entry to your Pokédex in Pokémon Legends: Arceus.

Catch Turtwig in Pokémon Legends: Arceus

Once you’ve reached the Crimson Mirelands, the second area of Pokémon Legends: Arceus, you can begin your quest to find Turtwig.

The Grass-type Pokémon can be caught in the Crimson Mirelands location of Droning Meadow. If you’ve passed the Crimson Mirelands, you can simply make your way back.

Regardless of how you come in, once you’re in Droning Meadow you can begin to look for Turwtig. Unlike Chimchar, the Pokémon won’t appear as a guaranteed encounter from a request. Instead, you need to find it on your own.

To locate Turtwig, you will need to travel to a little cove at the very southeastern point of Droning Meadow. Turwtig is found in a clearing around some tall grass, water and trees. To make catching the Grass-type easier, you can hide in the tall grass, throw a berry out to distract it and then surprise it by throwing a Poké Ball. If you simply walk up to a Turtwig, it might run away and you will need to re-enter Droning Meadow.

The one problem that might arise with catching Turtwig is the Alpha Grotle that can appear next to it. The Alpha Grotle isn’t guaranteed to appear, though, so you’ll have to go and see if luck is on your side. If the Grotle is there, you can either go back and re-enter Droning Meadow to try again or take the Grotle on.

Either way, if you’ve managed to catch Turtwig, then you can go on and try to catch Piplup in Cobalt Highlands.
