ORIGIN
Macklemore is an American rapper, singer, and songwriter. He’s formerly known as Professor Macklemore. He’s best known for the album The Heist (2012) with Ryan Lewis. His solo discography includes The Language of My World (2005) and Gemini (2017). Macklemore was born Benjamin Hammond Haggerty on June 19, 1983, in Seattle, Washington. His parents are Bill Haggerty and Julie Schott. His mom worked as a social worker. He was raised alongside his brother Tim. Macklemore attended both Garfield High School and Nathan Hale High School. He graduated in 2009 with a BA degree from Evergreen State College.

CAREER
Haggerty began his music career under the moniker ‘Professor Macklemore’. His early musical influences include the hip-hop groups ‘Digital Underground’, ‘Kris Kross’, and ‘Wu-Tang Clan’. He also drew inspiration from the king of pop Michael Jackson. Macklemore released his debut mixtape, Open Your Eyes, in late 2000. He followed up with his debut solo album, The Language of My World, in January 2005. It was led by the single “Love Song” featuring Evan Roman. A second mixtape titled ‘The Unplanned Mixtape’ was released in September 2009. It featured Ziggy Stardust on the track “And We Danced”. Macklemore’s second solo album, Gemini, was released in September 2017. It peaked at #2 on the Billboard 200. The album produced 3 singles “Glorious” featuring Skylar Grey, “Marmalade” featuring Lil Yachty, and “Good Old Days” featuring Kesha.

Macklemore took his music to new heights by teaming up with DJ/producer Ryan Lewis. The two forms the hip-hop duo Macklemore & Ryan Lewis. Their first two projects were The Vs. EP (2009) and The Vs. Redux (2010). The duo’s debut studio album, The Heist, was released to commercial success in October 2012. It was certified Platinum (RIAA) with more than 1.4 million copies sold in the US. ‘The Heist’ spawned the hit singles “Can’t Hold Us” featuring Ray Dalton, and “Thrift Shop” featuring Wanz. Both songs peaked at the #1 spot on the Billboard Hot 100. The official video for ‘Thrift Shop’ has been viewed more than 1.1 billion times on YouTube. The duo’s second album, This Unruly Mess I’ve Made, was released in February 2016. Macklemore & Ryan Lewis have won several awards including 4 Grammys, 2 AMAs, 2 Teen Choice Awards, and 2 Billboard Music Awards.

Macklemore’s height is 5ft 10in and he’s of Irish, German and English ancestry. His net worth is estimated at $25 million. He married longtime girlfriend ‘Tricia Davis’ in June 2015. The couple welcomed their first child, Sloane Ava Simone Haggerty, in May 2015. Tricia is reportedly pregnant with their second child.
